Client Overview

Absa Bank Uganda Ltd, a leading commercial bank with a nationwide footprint, required a modern, secure, and scalable access control system across its head office and regional branches. To safeguard staff, assets, and customer areas, the bank partnered with SBS Systems Uganda Ltd for full lifecycle services: installation, preventive maintenance, repairs, and 24/7 ad hoc call-outs.

Services Provided

  • Installation of iDemia biometric and card readers
  • Integration with Paxton Net2 and Paxton controllers for door logic
  • Deployment of Morpho Manager software for biometric enrollment, template management, and audit logs
  • Preventive maintenance: quarterly inspections, firmware updates, hardware health checks
  • Ad hoc call-outs and on-site repairs with guaranteed response times
  • System documentation: as-built diagrams, user manuals, and support SOPs

Solution Implementation

1. System Design & Integration

  • Mapped all entry points, emergency exits, and sensitive zones
  • Specified iDemia fingerprint and card-reader models per door usage profile
  • Designed network segments for secure communication between readers, controllers, and servers

2. Installation & Configuration

  • Installed Paxton controllers in secured comms racks at each site
  • Mounted iDemia readers on reinforced backplates, wired via Cat6 to PoE switches
  • Configured Morpho Manager to provision and de-duplicate biometric templates
  • Set up Net2 software for role-based access schedules, visitor passes, and alarm inputs

3. Preventive Maintenance Program

  • Established a quarterly site-visit schedule covering:
  • Firmware upgrades on readers and controllers
  • Cable integrity tests (continuity, shield grounding)
  • Battery and lock mechanism inspections
  • Automated health monitoring with SNMP traps for reader uptime and door-forced alarms

4. Ad Hoc Call-Outs & Repairs

  • Defined SLAs: 1-hour remote triage, 4-hour on-site engineer dispatch
  • Equipped field teams with spare controllers, reader modules, and cabling kits
  • Logged all incidents in SBS’s ticketing system, with root-cause reports and corrective actions
